For many, the twinge they feel in the dentist’s chair is only eclipsed by the pain in their wallets when they get the bill. But that wasn't the case at UAA. That's because all of the services at the dental clinic today were free.
People could get fillings, cleanings, x-rays and children got sealants at the UAA dental clinic today. The event was staffed by about 60 volunteer dentists and dental hygienists. UAA says the event is a great way to get its students experience working in real world conditions. It also provides an important opportunity for everyone to give back to the community, one smile at a time.
The event was sponsored by UAA, The Alaska Dental Society and The Alaska Dental Hygiene Association. As the man we interviewed alluded to: it was very popular - with more than 160 people signed up by 9 am this morning.
