Empty Bowl Helps Feed HungryHundreds came to the 17th annual Empty Bowl Project, which raises money for Bean’s Café.Hundreds showed up at the Egan Center to help Anchorage's hungry at 17th annual Empty Bowl Project. The project has raised more than a million dollars over the years for Bean's Café. For $20, people were able to select a bowl made and donated by local artists and enjoy unlimited soup and corn bread. The meal was accompanied by live music and a silent action.
Bean's Café officials say the Empty Bowl is a way to not only help the less fortunate but identify with them as well.
“It puts a face on the homeless and the hungry in Anchorage,” said Leslie Ellis, Chairperson of Bean’s Café. “And what I think is really nice is it's a low price event that families can participate in, kids even. There's a lot of children here if you look around.”
There is a new way to donate to Bean's Café; you can give a donation of ten dollars by texting “beans” to 20222.
The texting system will be expanded to more non-profits in a few months.
