The Eagle River community came out in full force to help support a local teen battling cancer.

Chugiak High School graduate Sarah Matthew, 18, was diagnosed with a form of brain cancer earlier this year.

Since then, she's been undergoing treatment in Alaska and out of state.

To assist the family with their growing medical expenses, the Eagle River Elks, Lions and Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions clubs held a silent auction fundraiser.

Sarah's family says they can't thank the community enough.

“It's just beautiful. Eagle River is such a supportive and loving community,” said Edna, Sarah’s mom.

The Elks also helped put on a senior prom for Sarah at the Elks Lodge.
