The festival included music, food, and craft booths from different cultures around the world. Event officials say dancing and drumming has been a part of cultural celebration and spiritual life since the dawn of man. “Anchorage is such a diverse community,” said Steven Alvarez, Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, “Part of what we do here a lot of our programs is to celebrate that diversity, to provide opportunities for some of the community cultural groups to come and perform.” Organizers say the festival is also an opportunity to build relationships through out Alaska as well as the Lower 48. |
