Despite slush and rainy weather thousands of spectators took part in the annual Spring Carnival in Girdwood, at Alyeska Resort.

This weekend kicked off the 3-day carnival, which included the popular Slush Cup event.

“Done it every year, it’s super fun,” said snowboarder Kami Cabana.

50 costumed competitors skied or rode down the mountain in an effort to make it across a 90-foot man made pond for a chance to win a ski pass for the season.

“I think this year, was aero dynamic, and I just didn’t hit the takeoff quite right,” said skier Tom Smith.”

“Evel Knievel, he’s a daredevil so I was kind of like I’ll be a daredevil today,” said skier Justin Keene.

Even though Mother Nature wasn’t on their side, people still toughed it out in the slush.

“It’s very slushy, and I wish it was more sunny, but it’s great to see everyone wipe out,” said spectator Nelson Carpluk, who attended Slush Cup for the first time.
