Daughter, 22, Accused of Conspiracy to Kill Mother Appears in Anchorage CourtRachelle Waterman's second trial was moved Anchorage because the judge felt an unbiased jury could not be found in Ketchikan.Original Article Posted Jan. 19, 2011
Rachelle Waterman , 22, accused of conspiring to have her mother killed back in 2004, had her first courtroom appearance in Anchorage on Tuesday.
A hunter found her mother's body, that of Lauri Waterman, 48, on Prince of Wales Island. Prosecutors say Rachelle Waterman worked with two men to plan her mother's murder. The men involved in the alleged conspiracy have already pleaded guilty and are serving out their sentences. Waterman's first trial held in Ketchikan in 2006 resulted in a hung jury. This second trial was moved to Anchorage because the judge did not feel they could find an unbiased jury in Ketchikan. The defense has filed a motion to throw out the case but the judge has indicated he would rule against it. Jury selection is set to start Wednesday. |
