After record-breaking winter, cool summer is a bummer

ANCHORAGE - After a record-breaking winter, we are now headed for one of the coldest months of July on record.

And it has some Alaskans thinking it may be time to leave the great land.

By Alaska summer standards, it's been a pretty cool and gloomy start to the beginning of July.

The temps may be setting records, but it's not the first summer that's been less than sunny – and some people say they've had enough.

But while Alaskans are donning sweaters in July, people in the Lower 48 are sweltering in the heat.

Anchorage has averaged 53 degrees for the beginning of July, when the normal temperature is closer to 65 – but the National Weather Service says that may soon change.

In fact there is every reason to be optimistic.

If those temperatures do come, you may want to get out and enjoy them now, because August is traditionally our rainy month, and there's a good chance it could be a wet one.

No matter what our weather is like here in Alaska, it's always better than the lower 48 most of the time. I love Alaska & it's weather.

The "moving-out-of-state" sales are great. Sorry to see you go. You got great stuff.

I left Palmer ten years ago for retraining after 43 years in Alaska. Biggest mistake I ever made. Now I have to find work there to come back. I'm trained in Orthopedic Massage Therapy and have a successful practice here in Plano, Texas. If I could find a Chiropractor to work for in Wasilla or Palmer, I would be back in a heartbeat. My son and Grandchild are there and I would love to live close to them. You can take the man out of Alaska but you can't take Alaska out of the man. It will always be my home. wm dot hamilton 100 at yahoo dot com.

Good let them leave. Bigger PFD checks for the rest of us. When they move back and apply, they get denied.

Right On Ted! That's why I moved to AK. I left 95 degree days with 100% humidity and wouldn't live in that again unless absolutely necessary. Let's face it... when you're cold you can layer clothing but when it's hot & humid there's only so much you can take off. The only solution...a large Air Conditioner.

This summer has been a joke so far. Maybe it this cool to encourage the polar bear population into expanding. But still, I rather be cool and comfortable then being hot, humid and sweaty like so many folks have it in the lower 48.
