ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTVA CBS 11 News) - A substitute teacher for the Anchorage School District and Camp Fire counselor has been arrested for child pornography.

A Campfire official released the following statement: “Camp Fire can verify the employment of Eric Hafen as a new employee as of April 12, 2010. Mr. Hafen is still in his introductory/probationary period. He cleared Camp Fire's hiring process which includes references and a background check. He has been under direct supervision while working in our after school program. I assure you, while we are just learning about Mr. Hafen's arrest, we will fully cooperate with the authorities. The safety of all children is our highest priority and we will keep our Government Hill families updated as we learn more.” Barbara Dubovich, CEO Camp Fire Alaska Council.

ANCHORAGE POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE:

On May 8, 2010, Anchorage Police received a tip from a citizen that an individual had images and videos of Child Pornography (Child Sexual Exploitation) on his computer.  Police learned that the suspect is a substitute teacher for the Anchorage School District and works for Campfire at Government Hill Elementary School.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the defendant's residence, located at the 400 block of D Street.  On the defendant's laptop computer, APD Cyber Crime Detectives found numerous images of child sexual exploitation, depicting images of sexual abuse of children as young as 7 or 8 years old.

Officers arrested Eric Hafen, age 32, and charged him with one count of Possession of Child Pornography.  He was taken to the Anchorage Jail with bail set at $7500 plus third party custodian.  He was ordered to not possess a computer or access the internet.

The investigation is continuing as a complete examination of Hafen's computer must be performed to find out if any local children are among the victims in the images.  Additional charges are pending based on the outcome of the forensic examination of the hard drive.
