The Mount Marathon race isn't just an opportunity for athletes to test their strength against nature—it is also a yearly boost to the economy of Seward.

Onlookers stand behind the finish line in downtown Seward cheering on their family and friends, and as they anxiously await the results they are also exploring the town.

AK Starfish Company opened its Seward store in June just in time to be ready for the famous footrace.

The company also has a location in Anchorage on Spenard Road, but the Starfish owner said opening a location in Seward was a perfect fit.

“We've had the visitors all weekend coming into the store. It’s been wonderful and we're just pleased to be here in this great Alaskan tradition,” said Marci Nelson, owner of AK Starfish Company.

In addition to the starfish, salmon, raven and wildflower, the store will release a new design to its collection August 1.
