A Cat Who Rocks His Own Socks Off

Socks is too cool for socks and he's even too cool for shoes which means there's not a whole lot of upkeep with this guy.

Every Thursday KTVA CBS 11 heads down to Anchorage Animal Control to meet our Pet of the Week and it's a very unique week as we meet our pets.

Yesterday Eric Snitil had the chance to meet 10-year-old Socks who is way cooler than me.

We've all got a few socks lying around the house but chances are none of them are as cool as this guy.

Socks is too cool for socks and he's even too cool for shoes which means there's not a whole lot of upkeep with this guy.

"He's so mellow,” said Brooke Taylor of Anchorage Animal Care & Control. “He just wants to hang out with you on the couch. He's not going to need a huge amount of maintenance with like running around and getting into things and monitoring him on all that."

Socks is pretty content to just hang out.

But if there's a meal involved…well, things just get out of control

Socks is only $62 to adopt, already neutered, vaccinated, has his microchip— the whole nine yards. He's even declawed in the front which makes him extra cuddly.

It is wonderful that KTVA sponsers a pet of the week, but the declaw comment at the end was both ignorant and sad. I saw this cat at an event this weekend -he has a very pleasant disposition, and is a strikingly handsome big cat. Hope that he finds a great home.

declawing doesn't make a cat 'extra cuddly'! In fact, many cats that have had their toes amputated are not very cuddly because they have pain and have lost some of their natural defenses. This sweet kitty needs a home but please don't praise toe amputations in the process of finding him one!

Socks had 1/3rd of his fingers cut off said on Thursday, Apr 28 at 4:31 PM

It's too bad KTVA CBS wasted an opportunity to educate the public about what declawing really is - painful amputation of the 3rd Phalanx finger bones - and instead glorified the fact this poor animal had his paws mutilated by a vet for uncommitted people that ended up disposing him to a shelter. So, Socks is "extra cuddly" for humans, but what about the cat? He has to live with phantom and joint pain for the rest of his life - that's what happens when you amputate the walking digits from the anatomy of digitigrade animals. Cats with claws are extra cuddly too when you handle then correctly and humanely treat them with trimming their nails or covering them with nail caps. So is it worth crippling an animal for life to make them "extra cuddly" when all that is really needed is a painless nail trim? To whoever adopts this beautiful, deserving animal, please get him on joint support to ease his aching paws.
