To friends, family and classmates, Carman Fabiano was known as Alex—an art student who was filled with an “inner light.”
Fabiano was killed earlier this month in a car collision, and Friday evening her life was celebrated in the form of artwork. Owen Lee, a classmate of Fabiano at UAA, said he’ll remember her smile most, and the way she would come into the art studio and just hang out while others painted. To celebrate Fabiano’s life and passion for art, her classmates and friends created a mural and other artwork featured in a show in her remembrance. “Everybody has their ups and downs, but I feel like the art show has helped us focus that energy into some sort of direction. Doing art is probably the best way for us to deal with it,” said Robin Farmer, a classmate. But most importantly, her friends say they want to convey through their work who Alex was—a woman who positively impacted those around her. “I hope that people can really get that she really, really touched a lot of people,” Farmer said. The art show will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the UAA campus; artwork celebrating Carman “Alex” Fabiano will be on display all next week. |
