Plein Art Artists Raise Money for Emergency Women and Children's Shelter

The rainy weekend weather didn’t keep local plein air painters indoors as more than 20 artists got together to support a local charity and paint on location.

The rainy weekend weather didn’t keep local plein air painters indoors as more than 20 artists got together to support a local charity and paint on location.

South Anchorage's Don Kolstad Studio hosted the fifth annual Plein Air Painters of Alaska artist fair.

The event not only brings attention to stopping abuse but it also gives local plein air artists a chance to come together as a community.

“When I'm down at the docks painting the boats, you’ve got the fishermen walking by and seagulls flying over. You can see so much more of the color and light that’s there” when you paint on location, said Wasilla artist Jeanne Young.

A portion of the proceeds goes to Clare House, an emergency shelter for women and children in Anchorage.

Over the last four years the Plein Air Painters of Alaska have raised almost $14,000 for Clare House.
