Pennsylvania Girl’s Wish to Participate in Iditarod to Come True

The Make-A-Wish Foundation Alaska-Washington chapter will soon grant one 14-year-old girl her Alaska wish.

Living in Alaska, it can be easy to take the last great race for granted because it happens right in our back yard, but for one 14-year-old Pennsylvania girl with a kidney disease, participating in the Iditarod will be a dream come true.

After 25 years of making dreams come true, the Make-A-Wish Foundation Alaska-Washington chapter will soon fulfill her Alaska wish.

“She has, her whole life, had a fascination with huskies and Alaska and they've studied the Iditarod a lot in school so she's always wanted to have the opportunity to see it and when asked what her wish would be she didn't hesitate,” said Nicole Sheldon, Alaska Director, Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The girl will fly in Wednesday and will join musher Mike Williams, Jr. for the ceremonial start. Make-A-Wish partnered with IditaRider program to make this possible.

The chapter has fulfilled the wishes of more than 4,500 kids with life-threatening illnesses.
