The halls were crowded at Anchorage Animal Care & Control Center on Saturday for its Valentine's Day Pet Adoption Fair.

The Anchorage community came out to enjoy dog training, valentine making stations, costumes, and information booths.

They say opposites attract and sometimes, you may find your perfect match when you least expect it.

That's what animal shelter volunteers say this Valentine's Day Pet Adoption Fair is all about.

"The thought is that you can find your one true love here today," said Mary O'Connor, volunteer at Anchorage Animal Care & Control.

So if you look past the hearts, crafts and cookies, visitors can find everything from roosters and rabbits to dogs and cats all waiting for a loving home.

"This is a great resource for people who are thinking of adding a pet, if you're not quite ready, you can come here and ask any of the volunteers a cat or dog question so you can decide if it's right for you," said Katie Burbage, another volunteer.

Don't want to brave the cold for the regular pet walks? Volunteers suggest adopting a cat.

"Winter is a great time to pick up a cat and warm your lap and greet you at the door when you come home. You don't have to walk them outside so if you get that 20-degree-below-zero snap you don't have to worry about going outside," said O'Connor.
