Over fifteen thousand kids were expected attend today's Kid's Day event, which is an effort to help kids and parents, learn about what services are out there.

The organization Anchorage’s Promise held its annual Kid's Day event along with over a hundred community partners.

Organizations provided free activities and resource information to kids and parents. The event is an effort to help youth have a healthy foundation in their community and learn about what opportunities are out there.

Debbie Bogart of Anchorage's Promise says, “We have a lot of wonderful resources in anchorage and sometimes I think we forget to look beyond our thoughts and this helps people reach out and realize that there’s a lot more here that they might have not known about.”

Along with plenty of activities for kids, there was also a new event this year for older teens called Teen City Center Stage. Over thirty groups took the stage to strut their musical and written talent in front of a live audience.

Organizers say this new event is specifically for teens who are musicians or performers and want to get involved with other teens in the community doing the same thing.

“I like it because we do get to see some of other music that other teens are doing now days. It's kind of fun for us to kind of see what other kids are making in our age group you know,” says local musician David Devlin.

Four scholarships were also given to four teens from Covenant House to help them continue their education.
