For Canadians in Anchorage, the holiday weekend started this afternoon.

July 1 is Canada Day and everyone from the Canadian military to tourists gathered downtown today to celebrate.

Dubbed Canadapalooza, the festivities kicked off at noon and include live music, Canadian food, flags, balloons and dozens of people showing their true colors.

The Peratrovich Park was covered in red and white, and, just like the Fourth of July, Canadians say they're just there to celebrate their country and have a good time.

“Canada Day happens on the first of July every year. It's Canada's birthday, and as you can see there's a lot of festivities going on. Everybody's getting happy, enjoying the music, enjoying the cake and the cupcakes,” said Daniel Milne, a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.

On Saturday, downtown switches gears to celebrate Polynesian Cultural Flag Day.
