Building positive role models within the Alaskan native community was the hope of one special event at Bartlett High School.

The Bartlett Cook Inlet Tribal Council program hosted a native career day.

24 native professionals came from all over the state to share their stories and professional experiences with the native students.

Guests included Walt Monegan, Melissa Shane and KTVA CBS 11 anchor Andrea Gusty.

The students had the opportunity to meet with professionals in small groups depending on what career area they were interested in learning about.

"It allows our kids to see that they can be whatever they want to be and have role models. It also allows people in other careers to come in and express to our kids what's available to them,” said Bob Moser, Cook Inlet Tribal Council, Career Day coordinator.

This was the third year Bartlett hosted the Native Career Day; West High School will be hosting a similar event in two weeks.
