NOME - With the last musher in to Nome, the legendary red lantern has been extinguished to this year's Last Great Race.

Jan Steves, of Edmonds Washington, crossed under the famed burled arch Monday morning at 2:57 a.m.

The 55-year-old musher took 14 days, 11 hours and 57 minutes to finish the nearly 1,000 mile race from Anchorage to Nome.

Just ahead of Steves was Bob Chlupach, who finished just two minutes ahead of her to place 52nd.

Steves, who entered the race as a rookie this year, recently told a Washington State newspaper that the first time she drove a dog team it was almost spiritual.
