As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, 11 mushers, including last year's winner, Mitch's son Dallas Seavey, had finished the Last Great Race. Mitch Seavey is the oldest musher to have won the Last Great Race, while his son Dallas was the youngest winner in 2012. Mitch Seavey's father, Dan, finished five Iditarod races. Mitch Seavey and his dog team took 9 days, 7 hours, 39 minutes and 56 seconds to complete the race. This was the second win for Seavey. Since winning the race in 2004, he’s consistently been in the top ten, except for 2011, when he was forced to withdraw after severely injuring his hand. Zirkle was looking to grab her first victory in the Iditorad. She placed 11th in 2011 and last year came in just one hour behind winner Dallas Seavey. Also noteworthy: In 2000 she became the first and only woman to win the Yukon Quest. For all the latest standings, visit Iditarod.com. |
