SD:Debt super committee – epic fail?
SLM: It's incredibly disappointing. The day of reckoning is here. We need to demonstrate we can govern as a congress.

SD: With the super committee’s failure, we’re facing “draconian” cuts – defense spending cuts.
SLM: Without it, where’s the pressure for us to act? Let’s use that as our backstop for figuring this out.

SD: How do we get beyond the politics of this, with Congress’s approval at 9%? What can you do?
SLM: We don’t give up. We’ve got to figure out how to put this country on a sustainable track.

SD: “Veteran’s Spotlight” – what's been the response to that program?
SLM: It’s a very exciting spotlight we’re hoping to build out with the Library of Congress, archiving really incredible stories that are out there. Often those stories don’t get told, so we’re going to really focus by providing this spotlight, and sharing the story of one special veteran on a monthly basis.
