Murkowski introduces drilling bills

By Associated Press 8:10 AM May 26, 2014
JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) –

U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski has introduced legislation that would allow for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The Alaska Republican recently introduced two bills. One would allow for oil and gas drilling on the coastal plain of the refuge; the other would allow for directional drilling from outside the refuge to tap oil and gas.

Similar legislation has been introduced in the House by U.S. Rep. Don Young.

Alaska political leaders, including all three members of the state’s congressional delegation, have pushed for allowing drilling at the refuge. But they have not been able to drum up sufficient support in Congress, or support of the president.
