The Kenai Fjords Marine Science Program is celebrating its twentieth year on Resurrection Bay and Prince William Sound.
Education Coordinator Leslie Jacoby said 44,000 students have taken part in the five-hour field trip since 1994.
Students collect plankton, learn about seawater, marine mammals and seabirds and work with park rangers to get a better understanding of Alaska’s ecosystem.
“Most of the kids that come out are Alaska kids,” Jacoby said. “We want them to get a chance to see their backyard and to appreciate marine science; appreciate this ecosystem and how it works.”
