David Standifer, 41, found guilty of five counts of assault, sexual assault
ANCHORAGE – A 41-year-old Anchorage man was convicted Thursday of raping a woman at a Downtown homeless camp several years ago.
A jury found David Standifer guilty of several counts of assault and attempted assault stemming from the April 2010 attack near Ship Creek. Standifer broke a woman’s nose with a punch and strangled her before sexually assaulting her. She was able to escape and flee to Commercial Avenue, where a passerby discovered her and called 911.
A statement released by the state Department of Law said Standifer’s sentencing is scheduled for March 2014. He faces a maximum sentence of 99 years, and will serve at least 60 under presumptive sentencing guidelines.
