It's an Alaskan film, by an Alaskan, starring, Alaskans. Award-winning director and Barrow Native, Andrew MacLean', concludes the hunt for Alaska Natives to star in his next movie, "On the Ice".

MacLean wrapped up the last audition Jan. 3.

Since mid-October, the director held a dozen casting calls around the state, looking for the perfect people to fill the roles in the movie "On the Ice."

More than 300 Alaska Natives have auditioned for this movie, based on his short film called "Sikumi", which won an award at Sundance Film Festival in 2008. "Sikumi" has been on the international film circuit with about 50 screenings, even making a debut on You Tube's screening room.

Now that the casting process wrapped up, the director said they are far from done with the project. "We need to find crew and we are looking for all sorts of other logistical things right now. We are still fundraising some and I am still working on the script and so there is a lot that is still ongoing but it's all going forward part of the plan," said "On the Ice" director, Andrew MacLean.

The film is about two young men in Barrow who try to cover up a murder. The director said it is not based on a real incident in particular but based on events that go on and the relationship people have.

They will start filming the movie in Barrow in April.
