A woman was killed and a man was seriously injured after they were hit by a car while trying to cross the Parks Highway in Wasilla last night at around 10 p.m.
Sally A. Chya, 36, and James A. Childers, 37, both of Wasilla, were struck by a southbound 1995 Chevrolet near the intersection of Pittman Road and the Parks Highway.
Chya was pronounced dead at the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center; Childers suffered extensive injuries but is expected to survive.
Troopers said they believe Chya and Childers had been drinking at the time of the accident.
Police say the driver, 21-year-old Thomas E. Brass II, was not believed to be under the influence.
