Hilltop opens one run; Alyeska prepares for Wednesday opening
ANCHORAGE – After weeks of sparse snow cover, local ski areas are finally opening for the season.
Hilltop Ski Area opened a single run Saturday, and while warmer-than-usual temperatures make for patchy trails, Hilltop CEO Steve Remme said the South Anchorage ski area has already attracted a steady stream of outdoor enthusiasts.
“We opened up at 9 a.m., we had a good turnout, by the afternoon had a pretty steady flow,” Remme said.
In Girdwood, Alyeska Ski Resort said it will give season pass holders access to the trails starting Wednesday, while the general public can hit the slopes starting Thanksgiving Day.
