JBER man named Airman of the Year

ANCHORAGE –

A local airman has received a national honor.

The U.S. Air Force recently named Senior Master Sgt. Michael Venning Airman of the Year.

He’s one of 12 from across the nation, selected from thousands.

Venning is the superintendent for the 673rd Contracting Squadron at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

He’s Australian but became an American citizen to re-enlist in 2005. He’s excited to tell his story, he says.

“The next 12 months will be very busy. I get to represent, I think, some of the best people we have in this country, those that raised their hand and said ‘I will’. I’m one of them and I hope to give back to them because I’ve been given a lot this year,” Venning said.

The airman will sit down with KTVA 11’s James Gaddis on Daybreak Friday morning. Hear more of his amazing story starting at 6 a.m.
