Wilde Sentencing Delayed Until JanuaryHe is the 72-year-old man who cursed out National Park Service rangers when they tried to stop him for a boat safety inspection on the Yukon River last summer and ended up being arrested and handcuffed at gunpoint.
FAIRBANKS - The sentencing for Jim Wilde, which was scheduled for Friday, has been rescheduled for Jan. 13.
Wilde is the 72-year-old man who cursed out National Park Service rangers when they tried to stop him for a boat safety inspection on the Yukon River last summer and ended up being arrested and handcuffed at gunpoint. Wilde was found guilty on three of four misdemeanor counts by a federal magistrate on Oct. 11. His attorney, Bill Satterberg of Fairbanks, said Wilde’s sentencing was rescheduled because of scheduling conflicts involving him, magistrate Scott Oravec and Wilde. Oravec found Wilde guilty of interfering with a government agent who was engaged in an official duty, violating a lawful order by a park ranger and operating an unregistered boat. The judge acquitted Wilde of a charge of disorderly conduct. The maximum penalty on the charges of interfering with the lawful duties of a park ranger and failing to obey a lawful order are six months in jail and a $5,000 fine, while the fine for operating an unregistered boat is $50. The sentencing is now set for 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 13 at the federal courthouse. |

This will give Magistrate Scott Oravec time to get out of the State of Alaska. He's not too popular up here. They say China is nice this time of year.
