ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers have released the cause of death of Israel Keyes, the confessed serial killer who was found dead at the Anchorage Correctional Complex Sunday morning.

According to troopers, Keyes inserted a blade from a disposable shaving razor into a pencil and cut himself on his left wrist. He also used a piece of bedding in his cell to strangle himself.

Troopers said the medical examiner had not determined which injury caused his death, or if it was a combination of the two. The incident occurred sometime between 9:30 p.m. Saturday night and 5:57 a.m. Sunday morning, when his body was discovered.

Pages of blood-soaked paper with writing on them were found in the cell and turned over to the FBI, according to troopers, but the content of the writing has not been released.

For people who are cheering his death, you guys just too premature in your joy. Law enforcement wanted him alive bit longer to more cases could be solved. Your sense of selfishness is beyond pale. Someone at ACC screwed up. Inmates can only shave between 0600 hrs to 1000 hrs. At 1000 hrs, all razors have be turned in and accounted for. The module officer turned them in and another officer recount the razors again to make sure its all there. So there should be NO reason why Keyes should have a razor at nighttime. Keyes was not under suicide watch so security check every 30 minutes is the standard. If he was on suicide watch, he would be in an accute mental health ward dressed in a "suicide gown". If he is to shave, he will be given an electric shaver and there will be a staff there to watch him use it.

Yeah they are supposed to teach correctional staff and law enforcement staff to be neutral and indifferent. It is not showing emotion and making things worse. I know because I use to work at a half way house and treated every inmate the same. Other inmates, people in the community would ask why I am so nice to that person (convicted rapist, molester, or nickname chester). I am professional but most people couldn't be. We are all human and should be treated as humans. I always remember when one of the correctinal officers Mrs. Kameroff talked to me about this. She said that they go through tough lives. I have been through issues in my life as well. Everybody has. Some really bad things happen to people and they never get the help they need. Mental health help, family support, non loving people in their lives. Evverybody should stand trial or go through our legal process until convicted.

With Mr. Keyes ending his life he has saved the state a lot of money for putting him through a trial that would have been even more heartbreaking to the Koenig family having to hear the medical examiner and all the evidence and reliving their daughters horrible last minutes of life on this earth would have put them through more torture then anyone should have to go through. My youngest sister was murdered many years ago and the guy bragged about it, but still only hung jury and he walked. I would never want to see anyone go through the torture of listening to a medical examiner describe the cause of death or all those testifying for and against, its torture. The fact that this person is no longer breathing is justice enough because every breath he took after the killings was one breath too many for someone like him.

I'm sorry for the Koenig family for not being able to see him go to trial, but in my mind this is the best outcome for everyone. No lengthy trial that would just haunt them more and then having to be reminded of him over the years while he sat in prison filing appeals. He most likely would have recieved the death penalty in one of the other states he murdered someone in and 20 years from now they would relive it all again as he filed appeals trying to avoid the chair. He just saved the taxpayers millions of dollars. Hopefully the Koenig family can now start the healing process.

So it is more then obvious that the supposed every 30 minute checks did not happen. How is it that a inmate on "watch" is left with his razor? Why is it not only given to him for 15 minute in the morning UNDER WATCH. As her father said they dropped the ball big time!
