Tobacco Prevention Control Program Reaches Out

Uses videos and PSAs to combat tobacco use

Alaska’s annual medical costs for tobacco use averages $314 million according to the state’s Tobacco Prevention Control program.

The TPC says lost productivity from tobacco use is around $177 million annually.

To get the word out about what the TPC does to discourage young people from lighting up or chewing, the group has produced videos and PSAs, which you can find on YouTube.

Many of the prevention programs are targeted at Alaska Native communities where smoking rates are higher than the population as a whole.

The TPC says the good news is they are seeing an increase in the number of communities adopting new policies for tobacco control.

The way I see it if we pay dues at our private club why should the assembly tell us not to smoke in our won private club. They should leave Private Clubs alone because when a Veteran was in the war fighting for our country they would issue them cigarets in their food kits, so now you are trying to make them stop smoking. So don't try and control other peoples loves.

You know, instead of complaining about how much tobacco is costing society, you should be complaining about all the cigarette taxes being used to fill potholes and not being used to offset the cost of healthcare. My opinion.

All old news. Help those who cannot help themselves and allow people to live their own lives. Why do people want to cotrol others lives and dismiss others freedoms. Oh, I forgot, it protects your job!
