3 ML&P Board of Directors ResignThe directors claim the board is doing a disservice to the public by not addressing critical energy issues and gas projects including the Fire Island Wind Project.Three Municipal Light & Power Board of Directors have resigned after what they say has been months of frustration attempting to move energy projects forward. Mark Wiggin, Helena Hall, and Charles Wohlforth submitted a letter of resignation to Mayor Dan Sullivan Monday morning stating that the reason they were leaving was because there has been no accountability since the ML&P Board of Directors took over the utility company back in 2009, and now want the board done away with all together.
The directors claim when Mayor Sullivan came into office many issues have been put on the back burner and are not being addressed, including the Fire Island Wind Project that would supply electricity to Anchorage and other railbelt utilities, but has been put on hold because an agreement has not been signed by the utility company.
“Were facing these really major issues that are a threat to the economy of Anchorage and we’re not going anything about them,” Charles Wohlforth, Former Board Director with Municipal Light & Power.
The Sullivan administration would also like to do away with the board because of costs and is in talks with the assembly to have the city run ML&P, which would get rid of the board.
“It’s a board driven authority still. So the board and the management of ML&P are looking at it. It’s up to them to see if Fire Island is viable but it's a board decision, not the mayor's,” he said.
The Anchorage Assembly plans to have testimony Tuesday on two ordinances, which address the future of the board. One ordinance would allow the assembly to negotiate with CIRI on behalf of the city on the Fire Island Wind Project. The second ordinance would do away with the board all together.

Why did they not submit a resignation to Senator Murkowski instead?
