Teenager Tells Police She Was Not Kidnapped

Anchorage Police say there was a lot of confusion when the girl's mother reported her missing, including how old she was and whether or not she was really kidnapped.

A teenage girl who was reportedly abducted on Wednesday told Anchorage police that she was not kidnapped, but left voluntarily with her boyfriend to get married.

An Amber Alert was issued around 5 p.m. yesterday in response to a call to West Dimond Blvd., after police got a call that See Maisee Moua, 16, had been taken from her home by several men in an SUV. Police first reported that she had been kidnapped by a stranger, but it now appears that Moua’s alleged kidnapper was her boyfriend Yang Lee, 20.

Detectives say Moua and Lee were found at around 8 p.m. at a home in Fairview. They both told police that they were getting married and had begun a Hmong cultural ceremony on Tuesday. Moua’s family interrupted the ceremony and took her back home because they did not approve of the marriage.

Officers say Moua waited until her father went to work the next day and then called Lee asking him and his friends to pick her up. Moua’s mother then called police, using her 13-year-old daughter as a translator, and told dispatchers she was taken by force with someone they were unfamiliar with.

“Ultimately a lot was lost in the translation because we were speaking to several witnesses who only speak Hmong,” said Dave Parker, spokesperson for the Anchorage Police Department.

Police say they are still investigating the case, including whether the misinformation provided by the girl’s mother was intentional or just a language barrier issue. No charges have been filed pending the outcome of the investigation.

In this case, I'm am sure the reporter of the situation had intentionally made false accusations. I from the same background, parents falsify accusations of kidnapping usually occur when young couples are getting married, especially when the brides parents disapprove. I strongly believe this should stop. There was a recent case where a couple had committed suicide in the state of california, due to disapproval of parents. This disapproval of marriage, and false accusations to punishment of the groom needs to stop!
