If you’ve got kids sitting at home with no summer plans, don’t panic. There is still some time to find a camp or two to keep them occupied.

KTVA CBS 11 contacted some local camps and found that many of them are fairly full. Even so, they still have openings for some sessions. One of them is Camp Fire USA, which is arguably the greatest provider of summer programs in Anchorage.

“We can’t meet everyone’s needs but I would encourage parents to call our main office,” says Campfire’s Barb Dubovich.. “Parents can talk with staff about what camps have openings at what times for the rest of the summer.”

Camp Si-La-Meo is Campfire’s day camp. It’s held on the Alaska Pacific University campus for kids aged 4 to 12. There are one -week sessions throughout the summer as well as a sleep over camp on the Kenai; Dubovich says both have openings and that financial aid is available for families who need it.

Another healthy alternative this summer can be found at the city’s rec centers which have programs for all ages. Both Spenard and Fairview rec centers have weekly programs for toddlers and younger children, but there are also programs for teens as well as special athletic camps like tennis and soccer.
