Thousands of Alaska families will be missing a loved one this holiday season, as 3,500 troops prepare to deploy to Afghanistan over the next month

It was an emotional day for families as they prepare to send their sons and daughters or husbands and wives overseas. While this deployment means an empty seat around the dinner table for the holidays, families say they are proud to have loved ones serving our country.
