The Alaska Redistricting Board is asking for your comments on its proposed redistricting plan.

Redistricting happens once every decade after the Census to ensure regional populations are represented fairly. Because of a population shift toward urban Alaska and away from rural Alaska, some rural communities are worried about having fewer rural lawmakers, each having to represent more villages.

The Redistricting Board has scheduled the following hearings:

Anchorage March 22, 12-7pm 716 W 4th Ave., Room 220

Wasilla March 23, 12-7pm 290 East Hearing Ave.

Juneau March 25, 12-7pm 240 Main Street, Room 160

Ketchikan March 26, 12-7pm 1900 First Avenue

Fairbanks March 28, 12-7pm 800 Cushman Street

Kotzebue March 29, 1-6pm 163 Lagoon Street

Bethel March 30, 12-7pm TBD

Statewide March 31, 12-7pm Teleconference
