The Alaska School Activities Association, ASAA, inducted seven athletes and three leaders into the Alaska High School Hall of Fame. Inductees included former Dimond High School principal Dick Myze, East High School grad and professional hockey player Scotty Gomez, and another East High School athlete Olympic cross country skier Kikkan Randall. Gomez was not in attendance to accept the award in person, but his father did accept it on his behalf. Randall said her athletic career took off because of her high school education. “I'm really grateful for the opportunities I've had in high school because I think that was a time when I really got interested in setting a goal [and] training towards a goal. I had great coaches, great support system at my school team that kind of helped foster that potential to keep going further,” she said. Randall is currently training for the next Winter Olympics. |
