JBER Soldier Killed in AfghanistanStaff Sergeant Carl Eric Hammar of Arizona died Saturday afternoonALASKA - Staff Sergeant Carl Eric Hammar died July 14 in the Khost Province of Afghanistan when enemy forces attacked his patrol with small arms fire and a rocket propelled grenade. Hammar, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, was medevaced to Forward Operating Base Sharana, where he died of his injuries. He served as a squad leader, and was assigned to 1st Battalion (Airborne), 501st Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Hammar joined the Army in December 2005, and arrived at JBER in September 2011. Next of kin have been notified. |
