The Alaska Aces returned Sunday night to a crowd of hundreds of fans at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport as they brought home the 2011 Kelly Cup trophy for the second time in six seasons.

The Aces beat the Kalamazoo Wings in a 5-3 victory Saturday night, and now have a record of 4-1 wins out of the best seven finals. They are the fourth club in the minor league’s 23-season history to win both the Brabham Cup as regular season champs and the Kelly Cup as playoff champions.

For Aces fans including Anna Lampley, a championship win brings great pride to the community.

“ We love the team and this has been just fantastic, this year has been incredible,” she said.

Aces left wing Curtis Fraser said the team worked hard all season to reach this point, and said the teamwork displayed this year was key to winning the Kelly Cup Finals.

“Every single day just working a little harder for the end result…the end goal and that was this Kelly Cup, so we're excited,” he said.

The Aces will be having a Kelly Cup celebration ceremony at the Sullivan Arena Monday night beginning at 7:15 pm.
