In Juneau, a military hearing has begun for the only person who survived last summer’s Coast Guard helicopter crash that killed three others.

31-year-old Coast Guard Lieutenant Lance Leone is facing charges that include negligent homicide in the deaths of two technicians who were on board the MH60 Jayhawk.

Matt Miller with KTOO public radio in Juneau was at the hearing earlier today.

Three people were killed in that crash as the crew traveled from Oregon to Sitka on July 7 last year – the pilot and two aviation maintenance technicians. But Lieutenant Lance Leone has only been charged in the deaths of two of them.
