Fairbanks Crash Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Injured

40-year-old Todd Hughs, a Department of Transportation supervisor, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Yesterday in Fairbanks, an early morning wreck claimed the life of a Department of Transportation supervisor.

According to State Troopers, 40-year-old Todd Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene. Hughes' 14-year-old son Chance was flown to Anchorage for treatment of life threatening injuries.

Troopers say Hughes drove through a red light and collided with a car being driven by 21-year-old Brandi Vrabec. Vrabec was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. Her condition has not been released.
 
Troopers say everyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seat belt.
 
Hughes was a supervisor at the DOT's Materials Lab in Fairbanks. He was also heavily involved in helping local middle school students through the project "Math Counts."
