ANCHORAGE – Hunters, fishers and outdoorsmen, brace yourselves. Thursday Cabela’s announced plans to open a store in Anchorage in the spring of 2014.

According to officials from Cabela’s, it is opening the store because the company “love[s] the Last Frontier” and what it represents.

The plan is to open a 100,000-square-foot store in South Anchorage, near 104th Avenue and C Street and will employ 200 part-time and full-time employees.

It will be like their other stores, with log construction work, stonework and a large glass window that will allow customers to get a sneak peak inside the building.

The inside will give people an outdoors experience, with life-sized animals, trophy animal mounds and a 5,575-gallon aquarium – the only exception to the outdoors being a fudge shop.

Currently the company owns 37 stores across the nation.

Construction is expected to begin in spring of next year.
