ANCHORAGE - An Anchorage mother is charged with attempted murder after Anchorage police say she tried to drown her seven-month-old baby.

Crystal Hawkins, 40, was taken into custody Sunday morning after she called police and told them she attempted to drown her daughter.

Court documents say Hawkins later told police she'd been thinking about killing her child since August.

Police say Hawkins held her baby under the water in a bathtub for one minute, and when that didn't result in death, Hawkins held her under for another minute.

The baby survived.

Hawkins was arraigned Monday afternoon and is being held on $250,000 cash with a third party custodian. The judge ordered her not to be in contact with her daughter.

I also have been diagnosed with having ptsd(post-traumatic-stress disorder) and bi-polar disorder, but I would never try to kill my own child. The bottom line is that this woman needs serious help. I would recommend in-patient treatment. I take cymbalta, and lithium to control my moods. This woman needs alot of psychotherapy probably for the rest of her life. I would hate to hear that she actually did kill her child again, and if they release her back to the mother, that's what will happen. I don't know what kind of marriage she's in, but I'd say she needs her husband more than anything right now for a support team as long as he's sane. I think Crystal might be able to heal with A good treatment plan. I agree with the judge that she shouldn't be around her child unless she's supervised.
