Alaska Unemployment Rate Rises Slightly

Alaska’s unemployment rate rose just slightly for the month of May to 7.4 percent, up from 7.3 percent in April, according to the State Department of Labor.

Alaska’s unemployment rate rose just slightly for the month of May to 7.4 percent, up from 7.3 percent in April, according to the State Department of Labor.

 
While jobs in the tourism and fishing industries are expected to increase, government and financial sector positions are expected to decline.
 
The Labor Department says that of a state workforce of just over 364,000 people, nearly 27,000 Alaskans are unemployed.
 
Nationally, the unemployment rate in May was 9.1 percent.
