ANCHORAGE - In the aftermath of a divisive election, Alaskans are talking about how they think a new president might affect their lives. Obama supporters, naturally felt more optimistic, but Romney voters worried about the economy. Whichever side, though, Alaskans had questions about one particular issue – oil and gas. Whether they were concerned about the environmental impacts of offshore drilling or that decreasing throughput will impact the state budget, oil was high on the list of concerns. Healthcare is another important issue. KTVA talked to two medical workers who say Obama's on the right path. "I have high hopes that President Obama's plans with healthcare will continue," said Christine Dittrich, “so we'll see more people with appropriate healthcare coverage." Alaska's Republican governor Sean Parnell has taken a strong stance against Obamacare, rejecting federal money for a healthcare exchange. |

Often one is apt to look at the pieces instead of the whole! What is more important than the pieces is the whole! Whether one is examining healthcare alone or oil and gas sales, the condition of the whole reveals solvency or not! The results of the November 6, 2012 presidential election has cast a shroud over the spokes in the wagon wheel of the United States spiritual, social, moral and economic fabric! The "Millennials" who shouted triumph in the face of President Obama's reelection will struggle to stitch America back together after its collapse. Although they will try, they will fail! Alaska, just like all the other states, will bare this calamity. Without the Lord at the helm, failure is inevitable! As President Obama has stated, America is no longer a Christian nation. Misguided truth and calculated deceit lurks in the halls of justice, cabinet meetings, and behind closed doors in the legislature! How will Alaska fare? OK for those that don't want mandatory insurance, I understand. Maybe we should make the law you have until a certain age to get insurance once that date passes you have to maintain it probably with some grace period in there. After that you can not get medical insurance never no matter what you made your choice get sick eventually which you will and deal with it on your own. Doctors have the right to refuse service even to those without the insurance.

I think oil and gas development will grow in Alaska, as the environmentalist would rather see it expand than the mining industry, something much more destructive. Another reason would be the nation's thirst for oil and the need to reduce imports. I hope to see the shale fracking take off.

If people can't afford health care insurance how is making it a law they have to buy it allow them to afford it!! Please explaing that logic.

I am hopeful that Alaskans will get the benefits of a healthcare system which will not exclude us based on preexisting conditions. Right now, the only way to get coverage is to prove you don't need it. Fellow Alaskans, eventually the demand or the oil will run out, and we will have no clue as to how to fund our schools, run our police departments and fire departments. We will face ghost towns as people move to more hospitable climates. I hope that our children will still have an Alaska that they can visit on vacations sometimes, while we relocate to sunny Seattle.

I will never understand how there can be such opposing opinions, in this case Sen. Murkowski versus Sen. Begich with their opinions re: oil. Just one must be correct in my opinion. But I am open to being shown where my opinion needs rethinking.

Politicians bid for votes, making promises they can't keep to voters who will believe anything, as long as it appeals to greed, envy and their sense of entitlement. This undermines our culture. This fuels our massive debt, weakening our economic power and America's standing in the world. Standards used to be defined and mostly accepted, if not universally practiced. Many grew out of religious principles. According to a recent Pew poll, a growing number of people, especially young people, no longer believe in God or religion. In this, and in our increasing flirtation with socialism, America is becoming more like Europe. Government seems to be replacing God as the only acceptable "deity." So what is the answer? Should conservatives throw in the towel and say America, as passed down to us by previous generations, is no more? That was President Obama's announced goal four years ago when he promised to "fundamentally transform America." He's doing it, and a sufficient number of us appears
