5 Fishermen Rescued Near King CoveThe crew of the "Captain Andrew" was rescued by the "Just in Case" after they ran aground near King Cove.Five fishermen stranded near King Cove are safe thanks to a good samaritan rescue. The crew of the Just in Case rescued five fisherman who were on the 57-foot Captain Andrew which had run aground on Bold Cape, four miles southeast of King Cove. All five fishermen on board the Captain Andrew were safely transported to King Cove on the Just in Case with no reported injuries. Two fishing ships the Golden Dawn and Just in Case responded along with the Coast Guard. Chief Petty Officer Dana Warr of the 17th U.S. Coast Guard district notes, “Commercial fishermen, they have that gear and they should know how to use it and pretty much all of them do. Our response was quick, but we were coming from St. Paul and there happened to be a good samaratin, much, much closer, and they were able to just jump into a skiff provided by the Just in Case and they didn't have to go in the water." The Captain Andrew was carrying about 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel. The Coast Guard is investigating. |
