Fall is in full swing around Alaska, which means the count down to Fur Rendezvous is officially on.

The new Fur Rendezvous pin was unveiled today at event headquarters in downtown Anchorage.

The 2012 pin features a floatplane and was designed by an Anchorage woman who said she wanted to represent Alaska history and symbolize Alaskans coming together.

“I think it goes for both Anchorage and Alaska.  A plane has been a key element to getting out to the bush and just uniting people around Alaska,” said the pin’s designer Brittany Kennard.

The 2012 Fur Rondy celebration begins Feb. 24.
