Family and friends are remembering the life of a man who died Friday night while riding his motorcycle.

Lewis Gerald, known as Tanner, was riding his sport bike on a side street in Ninilchik when he crossed into the oncoming lane and hit a pickup truck head on, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Those closest to Gerald said that the southern Oregon-born-and-raised man recently moved to Alaska because of his love of the outdoors.

Friends say he worked as a commercial fisherman on the North Slope.

Tim Simpson from Oregon, a close family friend, wrote the following statement in remembrance of Gerald:

"Lewis Tanner Gerald lived more life in his 33 brief years with us than many will live in their lifetime. Whatever Tanner was doing he did with a positive attitude."

His family said a private memorial service will be held in Oregon at a later date. Gerald is survived by his one daughter.
