ANCHORAGE - Across the country, tens of thousands of young people lined up to apply for shot at the American dream. The immigration policy would allow some people to avoid deportation and get work permits, but it isn't a permanent path to citizenship. “Under Obama's executive order it's only for two years, but also the type of immigration status this is called deferred action which is temporary, which means the government can take it away when the government wants to take it away,” said Robin Bronen, executive director of the Alaska Immigration Justice Project. The program doesn't apply to every undocumented immigrant, either. To qualify, you have to have entered the country before turning 16, and you must be younger than 31. You also have to be currently enrolled in school or be a graduate, or have military service, and you can't have a criminal record. “Immigration is really complicated, there is no line for these children to be on, so that is really important for people to know, there is no line for these children to start lining up on to apply for their immigration documents,” said Bronen. According to the Pew Research Center, about 10,000 undocumented immigrants live here in Alaska, but only 800 of them qualify for this deferral. Cendy Delgado, 27, is one of them. We spoke with her back in June. She told us by email today that she hopes Americans are able to see the benefits this will bring to this country now that they can further their education and become taxpayers. “They’re young people so they have tremendous amounts of energy that they want to contribute to the places where they live,” said Bronen. Critics of the policy say it's too broad, and will take jobs away from Americans. "I think it's going to lead to more illegal aliens coming across the border, and I think it's going to lead to fraud and untold expense for the American people,” said Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch. @proxyworksjustfine learn a little history please. For one the Russians had far superior weapons and carried disease that the Alaskan Natives had no defense against. Disease killed far more Alaskan Natives than bullets. With those obstacles you would have lost as well. Alaskan and American Natives have the highest percentage of their population join the military out of any ethnicity in the entire U.S. Search Natives in the military. You will be enlightened. But I wouldn't expect this much from trailer trash as yourself. And as far as Mexicans go. I have more in common with them genetically than I do with you, our DNA has been on this continent for thousands of years. They are not here for hand outs. They are here to work and provide a better opportunity for their kids. You know, just like your ancestors did when they came to America.

My mother has been a mayor, vice president of SEARCH (a health organization), President of ANS, city council member for over 20 years, president of a 8(a) company and has traveled to D.C. for Native business more times then I can count. I have a uncle that is the president of T&H and has meet the last three presidents of the United States and other uncles that are city council men around the state. I am related to Elizabeth Peratovich (you know the one that has a holiday named after her) who fought for civil rights a decade before the civil rights movement in the lower 48. Tell me why didn't the Irish stay and fight to make Ireland a better place or the Italians? You Sir are the worst kind of people.

Seems to me there is a lot of fuss over this...it is plain and simple: Our president has decided to violate our Statutes and laws and regulations; as he is doing with our constitution, i.e., asking the United Nations, who has no place in our internal affairs, to decide between Arizona and his position. It is outrageous and unwelcome. These are not undocumented workers...they broke our laws, whether someone brought them here or not...they are more then aware that they were violating our laws...sure, I agree, the parents should not have done this to them. But they did! And it is not our place to "correct" the difficulties they brought to themselves and their families. They are criminal. Ignorance, until today, was never an excuse for breaking the law. We are told, "We are only keeping the best." Lies...people better get their heads out of whatever cavern they have it stuck in, or they are going to be walking around wondering, "What the hell happened"? They are illegal aliens. Period!

It's curious to me that foreign invaders are allowed to violate the law and get rewarded for it, can those of us that have adhered to the law choose a law to violate and be rewarded for it as well? If not wouldn't it be discriminatory? Can't wait to see the ACLU jump all over actually protecting the rights of Americans. LOL
