It’s the story that shocked the community last summer: a 32-year-old man accused of beating up a 7-year-old girl over a bike.

Byron Syvinski was back in court today, and, for the first time since the attack, the young girl he’s accused of attacking was also there.

Am-Marie Martin was downtown at the Nesbett Courthouse to face him, and talked to CBS 11’s Corey Allen-Young.

For the now 8-year-old Am-Marie, it hasn’t been easy forgetting about what happened to her seven months ago, which is why she was in court today facing Byron Syvinski to make sure the courts and Syvinski know she isn’t scared anymore.

Syvinski’s trial is set to begin February 21. It’s still unclear if Am-Marie will testify.
