Young, Murkowski Praise Romney's Choice of Ryan as Running Mate
FAIRBANKS - Alaska’s two Republican members of Congress on Saturday both praised Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s selection of Representative Paul Ryan as his running mate.
Senator Lisa Murkowski said the nation needs “bold and intelligent problem-solvers” and indicated that Ryan, of Wisconsin, is such a person. She called Ryan “one of the brightest and most visionary economic minds on Capitol Hill” and said his selection as the GOP vice presidential candidate is “a serious pick for a serious time.”
“While many in Washington, D.C. are talking about the need a fiscal plan, Rep. Ryan has been hard at work designing a proposal for a financial framework we need to move forward,” Murkowski said in a news release.
“Gov. Romney’s selection of Paul Ryan to be his vice presidential running mate is the clearest demonstration to all Americans that he is willing to confront the defining issue of our time head-on,” she said.
Representative Don Young, who has been in the House since 1973, said he has seen Ryan in action.
“Gov. Romney’s selection of Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate is an exciting pick,” Young said in a statement emailed by an aide. “Having served with him in the House, I know firsthand how smart and how committed Congressman Ryan is to getting this country’s fiscal house in order. I believe he will make a great vice president.”
